The Memory Screen (1986)

oils on canvas : 92 x 122 cm

This painting depicts a multiplicity of images. Events of Anne Frank's life unfold and open out as images are brought forward to the viewer. The warm colours of the room contrast with the cool colours of the railway line and the camp beyond. The verticals of the camp walls echo the walls of the room. The statue portrait contrasts with the outlines of Anne's head which represent, because devoid of detail, the millions who perished.
