From the Annexe (2013)

Charcoal inks and pastels : 70 x 50cm

The stairway descends to two doors, one of which leads to Anne’s bedroom. On the bedroom wall are her pictures and photos. To the left is the annex living room. The lighter parts of the front of the building and the light showing between the doors reflect hope and normality, but bars link the staircase of the house to the camp. Anne’s head is outlined by dark concentration camp posts. In the bottom right are camp inmates in their bunks. The staircase can either descend to the doors, or descend as a railway track heading from the house and rooms to the camp.
